We are putting together our team for the Ethics Bowl tournament this November. Ethics Bowl is like a debate tournament that has the aim not of winning arguments, but providing the best overall perspective on difficult moral cases. Our first meeting will be next Wednesday, September 14th, 4 – 5 p.m., in Main 203. It is possible to receive 1 credit for involvement; interested students should come to the meeting for details.

Mr. Deity tries to work through the Euthyphro problem, with the assistance of Christopher DiCarlo. Watch for “Tommy Aquifino”.

As part of a Religious Studies Directed Readings course, students Carson and Mike will be hosting a blog discussion on religion and science.  We will be reading and discussing texts on various sides of the debate about the status of teleology after Darwin.

We invite you to come visit our blog and welcome contributions from all who are interested.  Mike and Carson will get us started each week by providing weekly synopses and reflections on the readings.  The blog is up but no posts yet; I expect Mike and Carson will get things going soon.  Visit the blog to see a bit more detail on what we are doing as well as for a reading list for the term.  We look forward to an exciting discussion!

 

To mark the beginning of the academic year, our college (the College of Humanities and Social Sciences) is hosting a short & sweet “Light on the Hill” ceremony on the first evening of classes, Monday, August 29th. All students and faculty are welcome. The ceremony will be in the amphitheater on Old Main Hill, 7:30-8:30. Light refreshments provided.
